Morse Runner for the Telephone Pioneer QSO Party
CW Practice
Morse Runner is a popular CW contest simulator for Windows
95/98/ME/NT4/2000/XP.
It is freeware created by Alex Shovkoplyas, VE3NEA.
Here are instructions for installing Morse Runner and customizing it to
use callsigns from likely participants in CQTP.
Download and
install Morse Runner
Click here
to reach the program's web page. A screen shot of the program is shown.
Note that VE3NEA has many other programs available at this web site.
Click on the Downloads
link near the top right side, then find the link Morse Runner - Latest version.
Click on that link to download MorseRunner.zip.
Save the zip file to a convenient location where you can find it.
Go
to the folder or desktop where you downloaded the file and unzip it.
This will provide the two files: setup.exe and Readme.txt.
Run setup.exe to install Morse Runner.
You can access the Readme.txt file from the program's Help menu.
We suggest that you practice using Morse Runner with its
included database of call signs.
Customize for CQTP
Locate the Morse Runner shortcut icon on your desktop.
Right-click on the shortcut icon and select Properties.
On the pop-up menu page that opens, click on Find Target. This will
take you to the folder where Morse Runner is installed.
Locate the file Master.dta
and rename it to Master.orig or whatever you prefer.
This will preserve the program's original call sign database for later
use.
Click here to download the file TPCALLS.dta
Copy the file to the Morse Runner folder and rename it to Master.dta. This enables
the program to use the custom database of CQTP call signs.
Close the Morse Runner folder and on the icon properties
menu click Cancel to close its menu.
Run the program to practice for CQTP!
After using Morse
Runner for Telephone Pioneer QSO Party CW practice, if you want to
restore the original callsign database, rename Master.dta to
TPCALLS.dta, then rename Master.orig to Master.dta.
